The frustrating thing is that I had noticed this initially, and had input all the authors in reverse order. Later, I got more familiar with editing the metatags and figured I had done it incorrectly the first time. So I changed them all. Now I get to change them all back. Sigh.

All my books are in epub and the Books by Author sort the same way as yours do.
I also use
PRS+ which allows you to browse by folder. The newest version of this upgrade (1.02) has an amazingly easy install. Using the browse by folders allows me to go to ///database/media/books/ this folder shows me all of the authors sorted by last name. See attached for example.
