It's not the SD card itself being limited... I've had 6K files on a card, all fully accessible, using standard 505 and now running four times as many under PRS+
Your card may be corrupt and need re-formatting, you may have a damaged file or two, your card may be faulty. I'd try a full re-format and ensure it's FAT32 format and then try again... unfortunately you have to try each thing until you finally work out the actual cause...
