You can normally read while tethered to the charger.
The initial charge(s) is important in that it calibrates the charge meter.
I recommend that you do NOT
confuse the charge meter by interrupting a charge before the "Plug" shows. (My first few charges took 8-12 hours for the Plug,
even with the start point over half.)
