It's my understanding that the files now being passed around are digital photos of book pages. This would seem to increase the likelihood of their authenticity.
If they ever find out which bookstore/library/etc. opened the box early, someone will lose their job and face charges, but honestly, I'm surprised it took this long for something like this to surface. Now the only question is whether the OCR'd PDF shows up before the official release date of the paper copy. My money would be on the "yes" side of that bet. HP fans are... um... highly enthusiastic, and this is their last chance to beat the record for delta between paper and pirate ebook with a new HP release.
