There are many rules of aviation, most of which are quite elastic. In our case,
While on the ground, immediate concerns are:
3. Are we packed?
7. Is everyone of importance on-board?
2.
Did we include a well-stocked beverage cart?
1.
Are the stewardesses pulchritudinous?
4. Are the stewardesses skirts just short enough?
5. Has the aerovehicle been
maintained, tuned,
fuelled,
prepared?
6. Is there a
clear launch space?
Nowhere in that list is the concern of actually bringing a craft to earth. Our intent is to stay aloft, if possible.
While aloft and no exigencies presenting,
1. Is the
beverage cart still stocked?
5. Do we still have
enough fuel?
3. Are the patrons happy, or at least
complacent?
2. Are the "necessary rooms" still
functional?
4. Are the stewardesses reasonably happy, or at least
compliant?
6. Do we know where we are going? and if not,
do we really care where we're going?
and sometimes
7. Did you hear that?! Is someone shooting at us? Are they getting closer?
Only at the end (however you define "end") do we concern ourselves with mundane matters such as
1) Is there a place to land?
2) Do you think we'll survive?
4) Stewardess, can I have a fresh drink? And a change of underwear...
