Yes, pressing it and then moving "on/off" slider. It would simply reboot.
You seem to have damaged internal memory file system, reinstalling firmware is not needed.
Reset and see what happens. If the problem persists, try to connect the reader to your PC while it is booting, and see if disks are mounted. Then run wndow's checkdisk (it's somewhere in "tools" tab when you do right click -> properties on the drive )
