I haven't read any of the Hunger Games series, but if you're looking for YA dystopian science fiction, I highly recommend Margaret Peterson Haddix's Shadow Children series. The books are short, but they are very morally complex. So many series intended for children and teenagers over-simplify issues and come across as condescendingly preachy. These books don't have many straw men. There is a lot of ambiguity, every issue has at least three sides, and it's not readily apparent which one the author is trying to "sell" to the reader until the last book. It is most emphatically a series about coming of age and making one's own decisions instead of relying on being spoon-fed propaganda.
