The top hinge/bracket/connection is spring loaded - while pulling down & holding the tab, rotate the top of the Kindle out about 45 degrees (while still attached to the lower connection), then gently remove the Kindle out from the bottom connection
while still at that angle.
Do not try to remove the bottom until you have released the top bracket and have positioned the Kindle as I described above.
