I think he's asking for a similar feature to what is found on the Kindle and some other devices. Perhaps one day, people will stop using the word screensaver and use words like attraction screen or cover screen. I think the word screensaver started to lose its original meaning when toasters started to fly.

There is also speculation that e-ink particles left in a particular state for too long may get 'stuck'. Someone did post microscope images of an old e-ink display that looked spotty with stuck particles. I wonder if cycling the screen between full-size images of solid white and solid black helps 'clean' up the screen or if an utility is needed to drive the same images to the screen but at a higher voltage.

Perhaps IREX had good reason to take the extra power to clear the screen when the device goes into standby when some other devices leave the last page up, taking advantage of e-ink's ability to maintain the screen without power. Or it may be a practical thing to do: they can cut power to all the buttons except for the power switch and a blank screen will prevent someone from thinking the device has hung (and subsequently crack the screen by thinking stabbing the stylus even harder will get it to respond).
