Yup, it boasts a higher
per capita murder rate (for example) than, say, Houston, TX (where I am now), but the 'capita' is so much lower, it breaks down to about 6 murders a year. Our current theory is that the reason the overall crime rate is so high is that it's a decent sized town (~100k in the "greater" area) and it's about an hour from Memphis, so going there from Memphis to steal cars (the most common crime, apparently) is a pretty simple proposition. But that's just a theory so far, we don't really have anything to back it up.
