The noise is there, but what do you know, I've had it for months and I only noticed last night. Maybe the house was unusually quiet last night, because I can see no reason why the noise would have started just yesterday. Once you notice it, you can't help being aware of it. I believe it's normal but the sound is too low to notice even in moderately quiet surroundings. It did freak me out a little of course
