Thanks for the clarifications, dmaul.

I'll just say that it's a utilitarian thing. I have an iPod but no iPhone and I won't pay for web access while out on the streets. I surf too much at home. So for street access, I use the Kindle for the various scenarios I mentioned. A lot of people on the Kindle forums who are not high-tech write about the myriad of ways they use the cellular wireless when out. It's just really useful for lookups, and it's pretty amazing for free when you can just get the info wherever you happen to be sitting. I've used it at town meetings to look up newspaper articles while they were speaking on a topic. Can't get out of the multi-tasking mode :-)

It is slow but workable. I don't mind slow for that purpose because I won't pay for webdata access when out. And if Amazon makes that browser speedy, people will use it more and they'll then almost surely charge for it on a tiered basis. So I'm hoping they don't get it too speedy %-) The mirasol screen would make speed more possible but I think that Sprint & AT&T throttle that.

The iRex 8" model, once they get the editing features added, should be pretty nice. Same for the Que but I read that it's disappointingly slow.
