jb_alphamale: I might be wrong but but I feel your problem is more to do with getting used to of e-ink than actual lighting.
All the devices you've used in the past are backlit. An E-ink reader is not. Now, maybe you do most of your reading at dim lit places (like many I know) but even that is also something which can't be solved by having a few extra lights.
I would advise to, perhaps, go a store and try other readers 'live'. Assuming most stores are well-lit taking the 900 to compare would help a lot.
