The 35 or so who still have jobs, anyway...you see, in our state teachers aren't getting paid anymore and/or getting laid off because said state is run by criminals. Get into Chicago and they're just happy when the kids don't show up with guns.
I seriously thought about being an English teacher, until I realized how much self-control it would take to refrain from belting half the parents who come into my classroom to tell me their lazy little doorstop of a child is the next Stephen Hawking and therefore has no need of basic skills. Worse, I would fear my own temper on discovering a student is in a genuinely dangerous situation only to be told by a superior that I "shouldn't get involved."
