Word count is a great idea. As is (in case you haven't thought about it) adding 'warning' ratings. Like, 'sexual content', 'drug references', 'foul language'. That's something B&N, for example, doesn't tend to have for its ebooks, and that seems to cause some readers quite a bit of anguish when they accidentally happen upon something naughty.
