On your earlier comment, yes I read with interest all your comments on Boox bec there is a local distributor here. They seem to say there will be 2 variants - wifi enabled vs no wifi (which is a surprise to me as I thought all the Boox 60 have wifi), and I think they are working also on a 3G. I'm keeping track of your thread on your reviews! you mentioned that for price/value, Boox is more attractive right? Although I think form factor the irex looks v clean and nice , the only negative being the stylus not tethered to unit.
The other thing is being able to read b&n books on irex. Now that I have a Nook and some b&n books, I think i wont be able to open them on the Boox right.. Thanks again!
The Onyx Boox/BeBook Neo is able to read PDB. But I'm 99% sure (haven't tried it yet) this is DRM-free only.
That's an advantage of iRex 800. Even solved very nicely, you can add more than 1 accounts. But PDBs show a bit better on nook, for example the metadata.

BeBook Neo is not very "polished". Significantly less stylish than Sony 900. But iRex 800 isn't much more "stylish" either.
To me, the missing zoom on iRex 800 is a huge letdown. Has been on former iRex readers and is quite common already on other readers. And BeBook Neo has WiFi, which I very much prefer over 3G.
I've made a short thread, "BeBook Neo vs. iRex 800". My summary would be: If you don't care about the bigger screen and focus on features, BeBook Neo wins hands down. And the price even is 30% (US) to 40% (Europe) lower. And I love the details like tabs on BeBook Neo and I'm pretty optimistic about frequent firmware updates. But I still want to like iRex 800 as well, always having been a huge iRex fan.

Concerning softroot and exchanging SIM:
I'd start with softroot. Not complicated and easily can be reversed (needs to be done first anyway).
As soon as you've gotten more secure, exchange the SIM. A bit more complicated, but still easy enough. And to me, exchanging the SIM is the only real reason for softrooting. Have been browsing the B&N store today while on the train here in Germany...
