In the absence of 3G, can you authorise your b&n account while tethered to computer, and download b&n books that way?
I've got the European version, iRex 800S. No SIM card there.
As far as I know, the SIM replacement "trick" only is working on nook outside US. You can replace your SIM on both Kindles for example, but it still only works in US (with the exception of the international version of course), because of different technology/frequency. To my knowledge, same applies to Sony 900 or iRex 800SG.
