The thing is, as PilotBob points out, there is always going to be a new shiny that you have to do a saving throw against. Amazon's pattern is to start hinting about Mother's Day about Kindle x and then announce in time for Christmas. The cycle was off for the K2, probably because KDX was in the pipe, as well and they didn't want to crowd the field. KInt came out per the usual schedule. So, if you really want this year's shiny object, then pay attention to the rumor mill this summer.
