EDIT: Thought I'd clarify; I mean what feedbook applications work? Does the RSS/Newspapers thing in this thread work? What about the Download Guide? Cos those things looked fantastic. Damn, living out of the US does have a ton of downsides.

The "Global Wireless" bit refers to the mobile phone chip inside the device. My 1st gen Kindle (the wedge-shaped one) runs on the Sprint network, which would incur roaming charges outside the US and therefore doesn't work. The Global Wireless model uses AT&T so in theory all the Feedbooks apps should work just fine from that model anywhere in the world with an AT&T wireless signal.
As for "showstoppers," it would depend on your internet access. Many ereaders don't have wireless networking at all. It's possible to just hook your Kindle up to a computer running Calibre and do everything tethered that way.
