Flash is more than movies or menus.
When Flex was introduced, it revolutionized how Flash application programming could be done. With Flex, it is possible to support actual object level programming. You can do the same thing with HTML5 and Javascript for sure but Flex marries the interface design to the logic in a more elegant way. I agree that the Flash runtime has always been a resource hog and Adobe should work out the best way to maximize its potentials on mobile platforms. Advances in the mobile requirements will trickle back to the desktop and will result in a better Flash experience for everyone.
Apple doesn't like Flash being available for the iPhone OS simply because of its App Store. It has dictatorial control of the whole platform. It gets money from every app deployed to the iPhone/iTouch/iPad. If Flash was ever made available for it, their revenue stream could be sucked dry. No matter what they say about performance, etc. their bottom line is simply that, the bottom line.
