You don't actually get a slideshow, as is done on a PC (which wastes power). Instead, you get one (wasteful, perhaps) eInk change as the reader goes into a powersave mode. No different, really, than blanking the screen or showing the logo. The only way to use less power would be to go to sleep with no indication that you had done so.
