The newer firmwares actually prompt you to say the battery is low, so I would assume that would be a fairly safe point to recharge. Don't be surprised if it takes you a couple of weeks for it to run down - the battery on these Pocket Pros seem to last forever (then again I am still getting use to having a device where the battery runs down when you use it, unlike a cell phone which runs down when it is turned on whether you use it or not).
Congrats on your new arrival. I'm not surprised your daughter wants one herself, biggest risk one has when buying their pocket pro is a family member wanting to have it for themselves.
