I try to read the book first.

I've never seen 'Gone with the Wind', but I'm looking forward to watching it when I've finished reading it.

I think there's a surprising number of movies that are better than the book - often because the book contains passages of tedium that made it difficult to get through; e.g. 'Moby Dick', '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea', the Harry Potters etc.
