edit: I managed to save my document by opening BD to a new book and then cut and pasting the text from my still opened document. I managed to save that successfully as a bd file

One thing you can try for the saving bug, try switching compression (it's an option in the make Book Designer file requester) the opposite way of what it is set for when you go to save the html0 file. I have no idea if this will work or not, but it cannot hurt to try.
