Hi Helene R, Welcome to mobileread.

Where did you get the books? do they have DRM? you might need to authorize your reader on the sony reader software and/or the Adobe Digital Editions software.

Have you tried dragging and dropping them using the Reader Library software instead of sync?

If they don't have DRM you could try using calibre.
