Have you read Orhan Pamuk's Istanbul? I'm in the middle of it now and I am really enjoying it. I lived in Izmir for 3 years and I have a Turkish wife. That gives both of us insight into the book that gives it an extra dimension.

I haven't yet read anything else of his but I really like his style. My wife read Red in Turkish and she didn't like it. She said there were some gay abuse scenes she didn't care for. But, I'm looking forward to reading more from him.
