I agree that it should (hopefully lol) never go away. This has become my format of choice. I see three other really big advantages of Mobipocket:

1) Reader and Creater are completely free for all devices.

2) Reader and Creater make it VERY easy to convert custom content from HTML, TXT, DOC, RTF, PDB, and even PDF (which the devs say is being improved).

3) The discussion forums at Mobipocket are quite active with developer response. If you want to change Mobipocket just ask! Try doing that with Microsoft Reader.
