I agree with JSwolf. Ask your friend if it's ok if you add the difference to the 900. As for the light, I would just get a good clip on. In terms of dictionaries and firmware upgrade, I wouldn't hold my breath. I've been waiting for a year for an update for the 505. By the time I bought mine (when it was introduced in Germany), I think the reader was on the market in the rest of the world for about 2 years. And so far, there was only 1 update. And even that did only fix compatibility issues with certain formats (or so, I believe) and didn't add new functionality. Why would Sony do this? Just to keep one going with an older device while they could also sell you a new one if you really want a specific feature?
