Thread Bumping
Over the past few months, I’ve noticed an increase in author’s bumping their own threads. There are times when they are responding to questions or comments from other members or they are giving a legitimate update regarding their work, but sometimes they are simply throwing in superfluous information to send their thread back to the top of the list.
I understand the desire to promote one’s work, but at the same time there needs to be some respect for other threads that are just as deserving. Perhaps I’m being a bit oversensitive to this, as I tend to have a rather strict viewpoint of fairness. In the past, I’ve simply utilized the “ignore thread” tool. It seems, however, I am doing this more often of late, and I am also seeing the old “This is a thread you are ignoring” appearing on the list of most recent posts.
I’m not sure if it’s best just to report such activity and let the moderators decide what to do. For one thing, I reviewed the Posting Guidelines and I could not find anything that clearly defined the forum’s stance on bumping threads. I’m not sure if I’m missing this information. If I can’t find it, then I have to assume the poster didn’t see it as well and he or she is acting within the rules.
While I’d rather not create another headache for the administrators, I’d like to know if there is any policy on thread bumping, and if not, is it possible one can be created and added to the Posting Guidelines.
Thank you.
