There appears to be two problems here.
1. The later versions of the firmware (v5.0+) now use the armel versions.
2. You appear not to be using apt-get to do your installs. If you just download individual .deb files and use GDebi to install quite often it will fail because of dependency problems and if you try to correct that yourself you run the risk of dependency hell! (google it for more info).
The best tip is to use google
a lot to find out how to do the basics in Linux, just enter "linux apt-get" and you will get tons of free useful advice.
