Simple-- Pirate= start to watch movie-watch movie. Buy=go through lots of menu crap first.
With books, Pirate= want book, have book, read book. Buying= getting around any geographic restrictions that apply, stripping DRM if it isn't available in your format, read book.
With both media, you get a better user experience by not buying the real thing.
