Buttons on keyboards and phones operate on crossing points of the matrix
Phones 1,2,3 row1 line. 1,4,7,* col1 line
If the scan see's a closure on row1, col1, it knows the 1 button was pressed
Just because the PEz has the physical rows 12345, 67890 does not indicate the scan lines are done that way. Only the keypad designer knows what does what.
Needless to say, it sounds like a bad (intermittent) keypad circuit and not
cockpit problems.
