Be careful, which editor to use. Notepad and others may destroy the structure of the document. If so, the reader overwrites the file when booting up, thus ignoring the changes. Just open the file again after boot-up to check.
This was happening at first - I was editing the file in notepad and it was just reverting to the original value on boot up. Then edited in Wordpad and, despite sdcard still being the value in the file I don't see the sdcard on my home menu. Any other suggestions??

I'm wondering whether editing the line
/apps/er/sys/global/is_first_boot=false
to
/apps/er/sys/global/is_first_boot=true

would help - but will confess that I don't really know what I'm talking about!
