It depends on the format. I would say that if it's PDF then you won't get much functionality. Mobi is probably ideal. Take a look at Calibre, it manages your ebooks and can convert it to proper format for the Kindle. BTW, Kindle 2 and Kindle DX have the same features, except for the auto-rotation which is present only on DX.
