Just add in an overnight stop in a country for which you don't have the correct power adapter, and you've got the necessary case. For example, on my recent trip to India, I wound up spending the night at a hotel near Charles de Gaul airport because I missed my connecting flight. Thus, I got to Bangalore 48 hours after leaving Pittsburgh (instead of the scheduled 24).

I had US power adapters with me. I had both styles of Indian plug adapters. But I didn't have anything I could use to plug in at the hotel in France! So, by the time I got to Bangalore I'd completely run through the charge on my PRS-700. That represents about two solid days of reading (12 hours or more, each), or 6 long-ish novels. A device that only goes 12 hours between charges would have run out long before.

Shorter battery life really would be a problem. For me, anyway.
