As far as invested work hours authors are always underpaid. I think simply getting what we can get away with is quite fair. If we factor in that writing is fun, and that it is basically getting paid for having fun, then it's impossible to split hairs about justified costs for books. The best I think we can do is; it's worth whatever anybody is willing to pay for it.
