Well, I think that my journey has ended. I'm now a fairly happy Nook owner. In the last couple of weeks I bought three ereaders (returning two) including the PRS-900, the Kindle DX and the Nook.
If I had liked the Kindle DX I probably would have returned it for the smaller K2 because I thought the DX was a little bit akward for when I tried to read it in bed but the real killer for me was the 5-way rocker (which is why I ruled a Kindle out all together). I believe I have decent dexterity, however the action needed between going down on a menu and actually selecting something was a pain in the a$$ for me.
The PRS-900, while perfect in just about all ways for me, made my choice to return it easy because I couldn't live with the screen, just too dark and not enough contrast.
So, I have a softrooted Nook and am enjoying it so far. I don't really have any speed complaints that a lot of the initial users did probably do to new firmware. The only issue that I've had are some freezes while messing around with Trook, which were solved by powering down and restarting (which is annoying but nothing too bad). The screen is great and when I get Calibre working on it I will be very happy indeed.
Thank you everybody for your advice the last couple weeks!
