I entered adulthood living in Germany, I was 18-22 there. I was in the Army but the job I was in was rather unusual in that I worked with more Germans than Soldiers. I also spent most of my tour living "on the economy". I got used to paying my bills, what to expect from a landlord, dealing with utilities and so on there. I also was inundated by my co-workers about how they felt their status was much better. they had shorter working days, longer holidays, more national holidays. going on "Cure" (oh my gosh!), the expected treatment from their employers, and so on. so I guess to a large extent I am a rather dissaffected American and concur that in a lot ways we have the crappy end of the stick for westernized society
