Plus the iPad is a great value. If I upgraded to the Sony PRS-900 for the iPad size screen, it cost $400. And it reads books and newspapers. The ipad does music, movies, photos, email, internet, light gaming, launches with 160,000 apps (including every reading format) and ..... books and newspapers.... with light and in color...for $100 more.

I also bought a prs-900 for the larger screen, but like the poster earlier said, my MAIN goal is to read full-size (nearly) pdfs. I have had an irex iliad, and the 900, and a prs-505 before, but the pdfs always sucked (IMHO). I was also looking at the plastic logic, but it is a 1.0 product, by a no previous product company, and there were lots of features I wanted (as happy add-ons) but they were vaporware. I felt a bit burned by irex, as a lot of the promises they made with the iliad never came to fruition. Opening the linux kernel was a brilliant move, as there were many talented developers doing work on it, but still, the product did not live up to it's hype.
I will buy an ipad, I have an ipod touch which I listen to on my walk to work each morning, mainly podcasts, which are managed nicely within itunes. I also want to bring my calendar and email with me, as well as the thousands of pages of manuals/legislation, etc for work, and I want it to fit neatly into my briefcase with my lunch.
Ever since I got my ipod touch, I wished it had a bigger screen, now I can have just that.
When I get home at night, I can lean back in my chair with a cup of coffee, and browse this site, do my emailing, and such, and not have to hunch over a computer for even more hours than I already do.
