Android is a lock if for no other reason than it's [essentially] free. That means you have [or will have] access to all the basic e-reading Android apps which are all on par with iPod e-reading apps (but, less than a full-desktop e-reading application).

Notion Ink certainly had the ambition, but the Slashgear hands-on suggests that they're going to outsource that via developer contests. Even if they make no changes, Android is usable and can be skinned with themes or layers without much trouble.
With a little know how, you can port other UX over.
