Another trick that might work is to set the date on your reader back a few days--giving yourself more time before the book expires. (This has worked for me on my 505--but I have a feeling that the wi-fi on the 900 might update the date automatically).

I have a library book with 1 day left so I tried your date trick. I now have an additional 10 days on my 900. And I keep the wifi turned off so I know for certain it won't change the date
update: I connected to my computer to side load a couple of new books. The date got reset so bear that in mind when you are extending your loan time surreptitiously.
