Yup--that's just the way it works. As TGNY found out, you can keep reading a book that's expired as long as you don't open a different book.
Another trick that might work is to set the date on your reader back a few days--giving yourself more time before the book expires. (This has worked for me on my 505--but I have a feeling that the wi-fi on the 900 might update the date automatically).
