PDF Formating

I find the PRS 505's supposed PDF Text Reflow is simply broken. On the PC I can view, for example, my Scientific American magazines in single column mode view zoom-->reflow. However, on the PRS 505 with the same PDF file, and the Zoom Buttons, either nothing happens or the text formatting a scrambled beyond readable.

Is there a program that will convert multi-columned text/graphic PDFs to single column?

Can Adobe Acrobat Pro permanently save PDFs in single column reflow format?

I've already tried PageCrop and it doesn't work with complex magazine PDFs. Also not a big fan of the idea that it's converting to image based PDF from text.

I would prefer the final format to be EPUB instead of LRF, since LRF seems very slow and unstable on the PRS 505.
