I think I read in bed more than anywhere else!

No problems yet. Kindles are relatively hardy (my iPhone also survives being used in bed and rolled on). The main enemy of these devices is LIQUID. They are more at risk if you put your kindle next to a glass of water/milk or a beer. Spill that liquid on your Kindle and wave bye bye. I destroyed an ipod touch very quickly with water damage.
