What a flaky way to get the thing connected to the pc so that the drives were accessible! Is that a hardware or a software glitch? whichever it is, Sony needs to take a careful look at it!
Anyway, I got it connected to the pc; as it turned out, somehow two of the three folders on the first Reader drive were corrupt. I removed them and the device started like a new one so it is working now.
