When I wrote "locked down," I meant that existing applications (e.g. for OSX, linux, Java) won't run on it, and that new apps must be approved by Apple to be distributed through the App Store, which is the only way to get an app onto the device without jailbreaking it.

Is there another term you think is more technically correct for this situation?
