The iPad is not a PC tablet, and yes there are some beautiful Tablet PC's coming out. I fully understand that if someone needs a tablet, then the iPad may not be for them.

I want the iPad for ebook reading, web surfing, games, email on the go etc. When I got my ereader a year ago, a device like the iPad was but a dream.... Think of it as a futuristic ebook reader on mega steroids!

I also love the calendar/diary, notes and photo Apps on the iPad. I already have a 17" laptop, an Acer One and a PC, so I don't need or want a tablet. Each to his own.
