I fail to see why shortening typographical errors to typo's needs comments and laughs. Normal English language rules mean that if you are shortening a word by missing letters out of it they are replaced by an apostrophy. Cannot should be shortened as can't etc. Or do you mean I have made other errors in my text?

"Typo" is considered a word and so adding an apostrophe and "s" makes it possessive. In that context, the sentence did not make much sense and, when you combine it with the fact that it was contained in a sentence complaining about bad grammar, well, it's funny.
Now, if we look at the quote above and the spelling of "apostrophe", we could well do another

. But I wouldn't do that. Just sayin'.
