Well, equally, you could say that it's relatively easy to remove DRM from an eBook. But the point is that the typical reader probably doesn't do either - rebind old paperbacks when the pages fall out, or strip DRM from an old eBook if they buy a new device. I don't regard either a paperback or a cheap eBook as a "lifetime investment", but as a few hours of entertainment that, in all probability (with a few exceptions) that I'll never read again.
