When I buy a book at the store. CORRECTION - When I
used to buy a book at the store, I felt like I was supporting a good author and getting a good story.
The "publisher", however, seems to be getting a bit more than the author. OK,

.
But if the publisher wants me to pay hardcover prices for a book that I do not own (can't sell, lend, or even give away) then I have to look elsewhere.
Buying from the authors' site or websites that look out for the author gives me a much better feeling. And I don't mind spending $5 - $10 at all.
SFWA - MacMillan and Amazon have their place. Some will never buy an ereader or ebooks. But trying to force the rest of us to pay hardcover and paperbook prices is against your members best interest.
Wake up SFWA and MacMillan. Its' a new world. Stop trying to make horseless carrage owners pay for a buggy whip.
